PLANE NOSEDIVES
THREE MEN KILLED. MACHINE IN PIECES. AN EYEWITNESS’ TESTIMONY. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tot. Copyright. (Received Oct. 2, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 1. A Percival Gull aeroplane, returning from the RlOl ceremony crashed in a field at Sandhurst near Hawkhurst, killing: Oaptaln Styran, the pilot, winner of the London Cardiff air race and , third in the King’s Cup. Mr lan Maogilohrlst, chairman of the Air Navigation Company, owners of the plane and Mr Bertram Wilson, the Daily Sketch photographer, who was returning with pictures of the ceremony. The parents of the last named are •so; ill 'that the breaking of the news to them is deferred. The disaster is believed to be due to bad visibility caused by misty rain. An eye-witness saw the machine, which up to then was invisible but audible, nose-dive from the mist, ■overturn and smash to pieces, strewing the wreckage over 50 yards and dreadfully mutilating the occupants. There was no fire despite the fact that the petrol tank burst. Subsequently Mr Ramsay MacDonald and his party traversed the same route In an airliner. They were not aware of the accident.
