CYCLE ROAD RACE.
INTER-CLUB EVENT.
COURSE ROUND LAKE ROTORUA* HAMILTON TEAM DEFEATED. Seven riders from the Hamilton Amateur Cycle Club travelled to Rotorua on Saturday, and engaged a team from tho local club in a race over a course of 27i miles round Lake Rotorua. The weather was fine for the event, but the road surface was very bad, and many spills resulted, six of the field of nineteen being compelled to retire. Good times were made on the outward run. At Ngongotaha Vaughan(Rotorua), entered the last five miles with a big lead on Grey and Savage, who were riding hard to reduce the break. Then came Howe, Newman, Reid and Fenson together, Head, Taylor, Wallace and the backmarkers together. Taylor sprinted, and in quick succession passed Head, Fenson, Reid, Newman and Howe, thus gaining fourth place. The scratch riders, Hodgson and Bell, went away from their co-markers, and It was evident that time honours rested between them. Vaughan proved an easy winner from Grey, who beat off Savage into third place. After riding the entire course unpaced Taylor finished in fourth place. Then into the straight came Hodgson, Bell and Beckett. The first two went away from Beokett in the sprint led by Bell. With only a few yards to go Hodgson came through in his final dash and gained fifth lilace and fastest time by a clear two lengths. Results were as follows: , . p. Vaughan (Rotorua), (12mins), i; W. The teams race resulted: Rotorua, 0 points; Hamilton, 5 points.
