REICHSTAG FIRE.
EVIDENCE AT INQUIRY. A COMMUNIST’S TESTIMONY. United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel. Copyright. LONDON, Sept. 16. Herr Wilhelm Koenen, who was secretary of the Communist Party in February, gave evidence at the Reichstag lire inquiry in London. He said he was almost continuously in Herr Torgler’s company on the evening of the fire. They left the Reichstag at 9.30 p.m. and were sitting in an adjacent restaurant at 10 p.m. when a waiter Shouted: “ The Reichstag is ablaze.” Witness and Ilerr Torgler were utterly astonished. The latter, exclaimed : “ For God’s sake! We must find out what is at the back of this.” Herr Koenen denied the existence of documents incriminating the Communists of starting fires in order to begin a-revolution.
