GRAND NATIONAL MEETING

FIRST DAY'S FIELDS. STEEPLECHASE AND WINTER CUP. The Canterbury Jockey Club’s Grand National meeting will be opened, at Riocarton to-morrow. Excellent fields have aocepted for the first day and interesting raolng should result. The chief events on the programme are the Grand National Steeplechase and the Winter Cup. The acceptances are as follows: —

LANDMARK AMISS. CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday. T. R. George has once again lost the services of Landmark, who was very sore after his work yesterday, and is not likely to bo able to start at the meeting. Landmark went wrong at Eilerslie immediately preceding the steeplechase meeting in June, and has not raced since. When brought south there was reason to consider he was sound again, but a recurrence of the trouble will necessitate another lengthy absence from activity.
