CLAIM FOR DAMAGES.
FIRE BOARD SUED. WATERSIDER SEEKS £5087. SEQUEL TO AN ACCIDENT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, AVednesday. A sequel to an accident in Featherston Street in April, when the skidding of a fire engine knocked a man against the fence of the Government Printing Office, was heard in the Supreme Court to-day. Arthur McSperrin, a watersider, claiming damages totalling £5087 (is 6d from (lie Wellington Fire Board and Henry John Wynne, civil engineer. The claim states that as a result of the accident plaintiff’s skull was fractured and a clot, caused paralysis of (he right side of the body. An operation was. performed, and a hone was removed from the skull, leaving the brain unprotected in that locality. It was claimed that the accident was due to the joint negligence or both defendants, or, alternatively, to the separate negligence of one or oilier of them. When the accident occurred the lire engine had swerved to avoid a car driven by Wynne. McSperrin was on the footpath waiting for the engine to go by. (Proceeding.)
