WOMAN BADLY HURT.

FRACTURE OF THE SKULL. TRAIN STRIKES MOTOR CAR. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WHANGAREI, Wednesday. Mrs D. G. Gordon, of Taihape, the mother of seven children, suffered a fracture of the base of the skull and scalp lacerations when the car in which she.was being driyen to Whangarei by Mr W. R. Claris, of Marua, a relative with whom she had been holidaying, was struck by the express at the Kamo leved crossing to-day. The victim Is In hospital in a serious condition. The car was almost over the line when Mrs Gordon, realising the proximity of the train, called out, causing Mr Claris to ease his foot on the accelerator. But for this the car would have escaped a collision.
