ECHO OF SHIPPING STRIKE. VERDICT OF NOT GUIL.TY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. ■ln the Supreme Court to-day Spencer Leo Parsloe, a -ship’s fireman, aged 33, was charged with assaulting Robert Renkin, a night watchman employed by the Union Steam Ship Company, and with attempting to cast off the tug Natone. The prosecution alleged that Parsloe was seen interfering with hawsers mooring the tug and that lie subsequently joined in an assault on Renkin-

Evidence was given by Robert Renkin, who said he had no doubt that accused was -one of those who assaulted him.

Accused, in the witness box, said that on the night of May 6 he was detailed to do picketing at the Railway Wharf gates. He never got on to the wharves, for the gates were locked. Accused denied absolutely taking part lit the struggle near the Natone. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty and Parsloe was discharged.

PLATE THROWN INTO FACE. SHIP’S FIREMAN CHARGED. WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Charges involving common assault were preferred against Robert Adams, a ship’s fireman, aged 30, in tho Supreme Court to-day. The case arose out of the recent shipping trouble. It was alleged that Adams went up to a man in a restaurant, and, because tie had reason 'to suspect that tho man had signed on as a non-union member of the crew of the liner Maunganui, accused assaulted him by throwing a plate of food into his face. The man’s face was cut, necessitating the insertion of five stitches. After evidence had been heard the case was adjourned until to-morrow. j PUNCHED IN THE STREET. ALLEGED ASSAULT AND ROBBERY. AUCKLAND, Wednesday. In the Supreme Court yesterday a charge of robbing James McCormick of £2 13s with violence in Queen Street, Pukekohc, on the night of June li, was preferred against Patrick Ryan, aged 32, and John James, aged 28. There were alternative charges of assault with intent to rob and of assault. James McCormick, contractor, said lie had been in tho bar of a iiotel at Pukekohe on the afternoon in question. He bad two £1 notes, one Ills note and about 3s 9d in small change. On bis way home two men attacked him, one holding him from behind while the other punched him. Ail his money except 3d had been taken. He could not identify either of the men who had assaulted him.

The Court adjourned until this morning.
