O. PURDY* RETURNS. HOPES TO OBTAIN AIATCHES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The New Zealand boxer and former welter-weight champion of Australia, Charlie Purdy, arrived at Wellington by the Wanganella last evening. Purdy was in Australia for the last two years, and has returned to the Dominion in the hope of obtaining matches. MARLBOROUGH CHAMPIONSHIPS. SOME THRILLING FIGHTS. (By Telegraph.—Press'Association.) BLENHEIAI, Tuesday. The Marlborough provincial boxing championships produced a high standard of performance and numerous thrilling lights. The finals resulted:— Feather-weight.—P. Rayner defeated G. Elsmore. Bantam-weight.—L. Thomas defeated T. Harnett. Light-weight. —C. Rayner defeated D. Hendra. Welter-weight.—C. Rayner defeated R. Alorrighan, after being floored three times in the last round. Aiiddle-weight.—A. Dasler defeated T. Nicholls on a technical knock-out in the third round. Light-heavy-weight.—A. Dasler won unopposed. Heavy-weight.—Alason AlacDonald defeated A. Dasley on a foul in the third round.
