RACING.
GRAND NATIONAL MEETING. LOCAL HORSES LEAVE. Prince of Orange and Lucess left on the express early last evening for the south lo keep their engagements at the Grand National Meeting at Riccarton next week. The pair are reported lo he in great condition. High Commissioner will probably go down on Thursday evening, hut definite plans have not yet been arranged. WANGANUI JOCKEY CLUB. LOSS ON YEAR’S WORKING. WANGANUI; Tuesday.
The balance-sheet presented to members -of the Wanganui Jockey Club at the annual meeting showed a net loss of £358 on the year's working, after providing £966 for depreciation of buildings and plant, hut this was considered satisfactory, as the position was over £IOOO better than that of last year. It had nevertheless to be remembered, one member pointed out, that the special rebate from the Government (approximately £7OO this year) might not always he renewed. The club had paid £4575 in Government taxes, and the gates were down by £l5O owing to the 20 per cent, reduction in admission charges.
