DR. J. T. PINFOLD. .• ) r / „■ . . ' • WELL-KNOWN MINISTER. (By Telegrrapli.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday. The death of Rev. Dr. James Thomas Pinfold, M.A., D-D., a wellknown Methodist minister and for, the past twelve years secretary to the Wellington Ministers’ Association, occurred at his residence ‘ yesterday morning. He was in his 79th year.

Dr. Pinfold, who was the father of Dr. F. D. Pinfold, of Hamilton, was born at Manchester. In 1387 be married Elizabeth', daughter of Captain H. Marks, R.N. Deceased was educated at Wesley College,'Auckland, and at Otago and Auckland University Colleges, gaining his M.A. in It)(hi and his D-D. in 1916. He was ordained m 1885, and was stationed at various places in the Npi\th and South Islands. He spent from 1903 to 1906 as minister 'of the old Trinity Church in Colllngwood Street, Hamilton, spending several years at Hamilton.

Dr. Pinfold wa,s a prominent Freemason, Orangeman-and Oddfellow. He was a fellow of the Geological Society and the Royal Microscopical Society, and was at various times president of Chrisitian organisations in New 4 Zealand. Be was the author of several publications, his last ""being “Fifty Years in Maoriland” (1930). Mrs Pinfold died in 1927 and Dr. Pinfold is survived by six sons and two daughters. ,

DUNEDIN, Saturday. 7 The. death occurred suddenly at Carisbroolt this afternobn of Mr Alexander Paterson, one , of the bestknown and most popular of Otago footballers. Mr Paterson had been a regular attender at games at Cairisbrook since he retired from active participation in Rugby a little over ten years ago and it was while he was watching the sub-union’s match this afternoon that his end came suddenly. Mr Paterson represented Otago continuously from 1908 to 1914 and then again in 1920 and 1921, 43 occasions in all. He played for the South Island in 1908-09-10-11 and for New Zealand in the second and third tests against Harding’s Anglo-Welsh team In 1908. He was a member, of the New Zealand team that ■■toured Australia in 1910. MR. W. BALL. AUCKLAND, Monday. ' The death has occurred of Mr. Wil- i liam Ball, of Epsom, who had been' ■prominent in bowling circles for many years. Mr. Ball was one of the most popular members of the Carlton Bowling Club for 10 years, was president for one term, and was nearly always-asso-ciated' with the executive in some office. MR. F. O. Hill, middle-aged, a member of tlie firm of Hill and Plummer, of Auckland, collapsed on Customhouse Quay this morning and died almost immediately.

MR JOHN D. RITCHIE. WELLINGTON, Monday. The death is announced of Mr John Douglas Ritchie, cx-Controller of Land Purchases. MR. R. J. ADAMS. SYDNEY SPORTING WRITER. (Received July-31, 10.35 a.m.) SYDNEY, July 31. The death occurred suddenly of Mr. R. J. Adams, Sporting Editor of the Labour Daily, aged 57 years. He married Miss Hilda Bright, of Canterbury.
