Henderson’s return to Parliament is practically assured tlirough the Clay Cross Labour Party selecting him to contest the vacancy caused by Mr C. Duncan’s death.
At the general election Mr C. Duncan was returned for Clay Cross with a majority of 9552.■ The voting was: C. Duncan (Labour) .. .21,163
J. Weinberg (Nat. Lib.) 11,611 Mr A. Henderson is chairman of the Disarmament Conference. In the previous cabinet he was appointed Home Secretary but at the time of the rift he led the Opposition in the Cabinet. I-Ie was defeated in the 1931 election for Burnley by ReaivAdmiral Campbell (Nationalist) by 8209 votes.
