Mrs John Ralston will leave Melbourne for Los Angeles on August 14 to Join her daughter Mascotte, now with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Daughter Edna is to join Jim Gerald company.
Made Fortune of £1,200,000. Winchell Smith, playwright, producer, stage director a.nd actor, died last month at his home, Mill Stream, in Farmington, United States. For several months he had been critically ill with arterial sclerosis. He was 61 years of age. Most of his fortune, which had been regarded as one of the largest, perhaps the largest, ever amassed by an American playwright, c.ame from his successes as a collaborating author and producer. Estimates of its extent have exceeded £1,200,000. Deceased was co-author of “Lightnin,” “Turn to the Right,” “Brewster’s Millions," and other successful plays. “Rrewster’s Millions.” is said to have made £200,00.0..
