UNEMPLOYED RELIEF.
REGISTRATIONS INCREASING.
REQUESTS TO THE MINISTER,
IMMEDIATE CONFERENCE URGED,
WELLINGTON, Friday. Proposals that the present relief soheme should be suspended and that sustenance should be paid ' and the Government should arrange an Immediate conference to evolve a national policy in connection with unemployment, were placed before the Minister of Labour (Hon. A. Hamilton) to-day by a deputation from the National Union of Unemployed. The deputation also asked for the removal of several anomalies. In the administration work of the Employment Board. The Minister said he was always ready to discuss fully with a deputation questions affecting the unemployed, and he would go into the matters raised by them. ~ , , Incidentally he remarked that at present the board was allocating £IO,OOO or £II,OOO a week more than the' average weekly Income, and the registrations were Increasing.
