Persistent but unconfirmed' reports are in circulation in Tokyo that America is acquiring land in Fukien, south-eastern China, for establishing a naval base there. Japanese officials state that the leasing of the land would be a violation of China’s undertaking in the treaty signed on the termination of the Sino-Japanese war.
