The Maharaja of Alwar has been requested to abdicate for two years or to accept a Commission of Inquirj to investigate the unrest in his State. He has been given 48 hours in which to decide and has appealed for reasons. ' v
A later report states that the Maharaja has decided to leave the State for two years. Probably he will go to tha south of Franoe.
There has been considerable trouble in the State of Alwar for some months past. The Meo peasantry, who are antagonistic to the Maharaja have conducted a revolt against the State troops. Being well-armed and organised they have gained several notable successes, and the Maharaja appealed for the aid of British troops. The rebellion was suppressed, but tense communal feeling prevailed and further troops were secured as a garrison from Delhi. The Maharaja, who is 49 years of age succeeded his father as ruler of the State when iO years of age, and is one of the most striking personalities in India. He is very wealthy and in the great war provided infantry and cavalry in Europe. He also represented India at the In** perial Conference in 1923.
