FIXTURE OPENS AT TE RAPA. MAKE UP WINS STEEPLES. PRESIDENT’S TO GIBRALTAR. The annual meeting of the Te Kuiti Racing Club was introduced at Te Rapa to-day in fine weather. There was a large attendance or the public and the racing surface while on the holding side was in excellent order. Following are the results: 1 — KOPAKI HACK HURDLES. Thespis (£llO 10s and £9O) and Unoco, (£54 and £93 10s),were most supported, Radiant Sun carrying £lB and £26 10s and Sir Musk £5 for a place. Mangu King fell at the first fence and Unoco led them past the stands with Marble King, Principal,-Standfast and Sir Musk following. Unoco was the pilot along the -back where Radiant Sun improved her position to go up behind him and the • pair were' followed by Principal, Marble King, SirMusk, Cargen and Wilton. The pair, led across the top and coming into the straight were well clear ‘Of Principal, Cargen, Ruby Meteor, Si? Musk and Marble. King. Going on, Radiant Sun overhauled Unoco inside the distance to score by a neck. Twelve lengths away came Sir Musk with Principal ahead of the others who included Ruby Meteor, Cargen, Free Air, Marble King, Balmeanach and Wilton. Time, 3.0 2-5.
Radiant Sun improved on her Pukekohe display to go a sound race throughout and Unoco looked to have the race won at the last fence but just failed to see it out. Sir Musk was finishing on well at the end, and returned her supporters a second dividend for the place machine. Thespis never threatened danger and finished a long way back. Ruby Meteor gave' a creditable display and should be Improved by to-day’s outing. Wilton was handy over the major part of the journey.

Hunting Star (£97 10s) and (£9O 10s) was well supported. Allegretto being entrusted with £3O 10s and £59, and Gi*and City, £SO and £6B 10s. Hunting Star was on the move when the harrier lifted and was early in the lead from Allegretto, Grand City, High Exchange, and Phlakuo. Hunting Star showed across the top where Grand City, Allegretto, Diversion and Lucks All were the handiest of the others. The leading quartette still had charge at the straight entrance and finishing solidly Allegretto won comfortably by one and a-half lengths from Grand City who was one length clear of Hunting Star. Phlakuo was fourth with Diversion, Miss Lulu, Notamint. and Revelation next. Time, 1.19 4-5.
Allegretto, who is a full brother to L’Allegro was running Ihe first race of his career and there was no fluke about the quality of his win. R. C. Syme’s charge was always handy and drew away over the final bit to win convincingly. Grand City was never far away, while Hunting Star also went a creditable race. Phiakuo was finishing on well and should he improved. Miss Lulu was closer at the finish than at any other stage. •-

Lucess -was favourite over both divisions with £222 10s and £144 from Make-up £195 and £123. : vjMaster Lu Jumped out smartly but ■ever the stand double Lucess went to the front followed by Star Comet, Master Lu, Wiltshire and Make-Up. Make-Up headed the field along the back and over the sod wall at the top of the straight afte- a round had ■been covered. .It was here that Master Lu came to grief. Make Up made play over the straight double the second time round with Wiltshire, Lucess and Star Comet in close attendance. The order was the same along the back and across the top and Make-Up led Into the straight from Lucess and Wlltshi"e. Make-Up went on to win easily by a length from Lucess with Wiltshire ten lengths away and Star Comet well down the straight. Time, 6.20. Make-Up fenced cleanly througout and had sufficient In reserve at the end to win convincingly. Wiltshire looked likely at the turn. His display was a pleasing one. Lucess was handy until the deciding stages.

Chang was first out and past tho stands was leading Flying Prince, Tarporley, Gibraltar and Alloy with Ornamental last. Chang was still In charge along the back followed by Teels, Glenrata, Flying Prince. At the top stretch Chang was bowling along In front of Rurl who was at the head of the remainder. Chang turned first for home closely attended by Flying ’Prince, Glenrata, Ruri, Gibraltar, Alloy and Lady Quex. Gibraltar came through in the run to defeat Ornamental by a length. Chang was half-a-length away third. Glenrata was fourth and then came Grand Tea, Royal Artist and Alloy. Time, 2.15 3-5.
Gibraltar came fast on the rails •over the final bit to win from Ornamental. ’Chang, pacemaker throughout, just failed ’over the concluding ■stages. Ruri lost 'comand at the turn and settled his chances.

Valrelna got the worst of the start and Puss Moth led out from Welcome Lu, Book Law, Tin Lap, Sinking Fund, Valueless, Chief Lap and Woodfull.' Chief Lap and Puss Moth were together across the top and inTo the straight with Welcome Lu, Tin Lap and Book Law the handiest of the 'Others. Puss Moth held on to win easily by two lengths from Chief Lap who was one and a-half lengths ahead •of Golden Sceptre. Princess Bede was fourth followed by Woodfull, Book Law, Valueless and Kanapa. Time, 1.18 3-5. Puss Moth was favourite with £252 and £193 10s, Chief Lap carrying £ll2 10s for a place and Golden Sceptre £l2B 10s.
