BOXING CONTESTS.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —Your correspondent in Tuesday’s issue was right in what he said about the boxers’ costume at the recent bouts at the Y.M.C.A. Still it was a very small matter, and I heard an official mention the matter to the lad concerned. The management of the tournament was really excellent, every bout (and fine clean bouts they were) being staged punctually and without hitch. The professional contest might have been better, but, all the same, I have paid two guineas to see much worse in the States and in Australia. The looal association is •working on the right lines with their olean, oheap and snappy bouts during these times of depression, as big purses are right out of the question. Hughes will be worth matching against much stronger men, as his style suggests that he will fight well on. the defenoe.—l am, etc., , TOURIST.
