PROSPECTS OF HIGHER PRICES,

As the outoome of the higher quotations in London the local advances against consignment have been increased to 7d for butter and 3|d for cheese, being a rise of Id and 2d respectively on the rates previously paid. The London market is reported firm at the present prices (78s to 80s for butter and 52s to 54s for coloured, and 46s to 49s for white cheese), with the prospect of higher prices. ' The New Zealand Dairy Produce Board has received the following market report from its London office, dated May 12, last week’s figures being given in parentheses;— Butter.—New Zealand, salted and unsalted, 78s to 80s, ex., 82s (72s to 73s and 72s to 765); 78s to 80s equals approximately 9d f.0.b.; first whey, 70s (665); second, 68s (645). Deliveries. New Zealand, 1895 tons (last year, 1925 tons); in store, New Zealand, 8218 tons (last year, 4916 tons). Australian: Salted and unsalted, 76s to 78s, ex., 79s (70s to* 72s and 735). Deliveries, Australian/ 2500 tons (last year, 1138 tons); in store, Australian, 4800 tons (last year, 1100 tons). The market is excited after a quiet opening and Is firm at the advance. Argentine: Unsalted, 68s to 72s to 74s (66s to 68s). Danish, 73s f.0.b., 94s to 96s spot (81s to 84s, 965). Latvian: Unsalted, 74s (74s to 755). Lithuanian: Unsalted, 75s to 76s (71s to 725). The market is firm. The New Zealand retail price is increased to 10d. Danish retail price is unchanged, Is. Cheese.—New Zealand: White, 46s to 49s 5d f.o.b. (41s to 425); coloured, 52s to 545, 5 3-8 d f.o.b. (47s to 48s). Deliveries: New Zealand, 22,500 orates (last year, 49,130 crates); in store, 124,639 crates (last year, 79,000 crates). The market is excited and firm at the advance. New Zealand retail price, 6d. Australian: White, 46s ( —) ; ooloured, 50s to 52s (465). Canadian: White, 64s to 72s (625.; to 68); coloured, 66s to 70a (64s to 68s). The market is steady. Deliveries: Canadian, 3600 boxes (last year 4800 boxes) ; in store, 70,500 boxes (last year, 81,500 boxes). English finest farmers, 80s to 102 s (84s to 102 s).
