JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS
WAITAKI BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL. 600 OLD BOYS PRESENT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) OAMARU, Monday. The Waitaki Boys’ High School jubilee celebrations began on Saturday, about 600 old boys, representing every district in the Dominion and .from Australia, being present. The functions are extending over three days, and will end this evening with a ball. On Saturday there was a big garden party at the school, during which a memorial to Mr J. llarkness, the first rector, was unveiled, on a tree planted by him nearly 50 years ago.
In the evening a dinner and smoke concert packed the biggest hall in Oamaru.
Mr W. Thomas, rector of the Timaru High School, proposed the main toast.
Of 19 old boys who attended the school opening 16 are still alive, and 10 attended the celebrations. There was an outing to the Waitaki hydro-electric works yesterday. To-day there was a roll call, and this afternoon there will be an aero display, sports, and the unveiling of a window in the Hall of Memories presented by Christchurch old boys, and a Great War memorial cairn in the school grounds: also the presentation of the Gerald Keddell Memorial Shield by representatives of the New Zealand Amateur Allilelic Association. Cabled greetings were received today from the Royal Empire Society, London.
