HUNTLY NEWS.

KITCHEN EVENING. The members and friends of the Huntly Methodist Church tendered a kitchen evening on Thursday to Miss E Dodd, of Onehunga, and the Rev. .J W. Parker, MA., of Huntly, who are to be married shortly. There was a large gathering, several visitors being present, and a pleasant evening was spent in games, competitions, vocal and musical items. Later in the evening the guests of honour were asked to unwrap the large number of parcels, which revealed a splendid array of beautiful and useful presents. Mr Parker and Miss Dodd both suitably replied and thanked those present for their gifts. A dainty supper was then served and the function concluded with the singing of “For they are Jolly good fellows." dance and card evening. The dance and card evening held in the Town Hall on Thursday evening to raise funds for St. Paul’s Anglican Church was an outstanding success, there being a large attendance, including visitors from Ngaruawahia, Taupiri, Te Kauwhata and other districts. A tasteful decoration of the hall was carried out in Japanese lanterns, sunshades and balloons, while carnival novelties were introduced among the dancers, which included gailycoloured paper hats, balloons and streamers. The music was supplied by Shaw’s Melody Boys and extras were played by Mrs R. T. Hill and Mr W. Hart. The winners of the Monte Carlo dance were Miss A. Harmsworth and partner. An ankle competition for ladies and gentlemen resulted in Miss Doris Wardell and Mr N. Saunders securing the prizes. The following were the successful oard players:—Bridge: Ladies, Mrs D. Hart; men, Mr F. A. Auld. Euchre: Ladles, Mrs J. Turton, sen., 1; Mrs B. Kinson 2; men, Mr F. Brook 1, Mr J. Dean 2. During the evening Mr F. Harris, on behalf of the church members, expressed thanks to the gathering for their attendance, and said that the success of the function was due largely to the efforts of Mrs F. Littleproud, who had organised the dance, ably assisted by a good working committee.
