STATEMENT BY COMMISSIONER.

WELLINGTON, Wednesday.

In a statement to-day the Publio Service Commissioner, Mr P. Verschaffelt, said that although It was permissible for officers of the public service to become members of local bodies, the policy adopted was that in most cases it was distinctly Inadvisable for them to do so. In certain cases it was most improper that publio servants should be members of such local authorities as city and borough councils and. hospital boards and in several cases where officers had been appointed they had been required to resign.
