BOOKMAKER CHARGED.
THE BIOQEBT IN AUCKLAND. FINE OF £IOO IMPOSED. AUCKLAND, Wednesday. In the Police Court Clarence William Russell was charged with using premises in His Majesty’s Arcade as a common gaming house. Detective-iSergeanb McHugh said accused was the biggest bookmaker in Auckland.
The magistrate said he did not know when it would come to the stage of sendnig bookmakers to prison. Accused was fined £IOO, in default three months’ imprisonment.
A charge of using premises In 27 Karangahape Road as a common gaming house was a/mitted by Charlie ..Jr Smith, aged 39, shopkeeper. He was fined £25, in default two months' imprisonment.
