THINGS HAPPENING FAST. RESTORING PUBLIC CONFIDENCE, MR ROOSEVELT’S POPULARITY. Writing to a friend in Hamilton by this week’s mail, a resident of Chicago, United States, says:— “ Things are happening fast in our country since Mr Roosevelt stepped in. I doubt if he can keep up the pace, but lie has certainly done things since his inauguration. The bank holiday (although banks are now open again) has done a lot to restore public confidence and now legal beer is coming back. ” Everybody seems happy and much more liberal than formerly. It may be a start in the right direction. 1 hope so- “ 1 doubt whether Mr Roosevelt will be as popular as !J,e months roll by, but just now he is ace high with nearly everyone—even staunch Republicans. lie has a habit of going on the air and speaking directly to the people from the White House and the public seems to like this, They feel lie is trying to work with them and let them in on his plans.' it’s a good idea to gain the favour of the crowd. He seems to be a master at that kind of thing.”
