WOMEN’S INSTITUTES.
WINTER SHOW COURTS. - ! GOOD ENTRIES PROMISED. If the indications are any orlterion, one of' the most popular sections at this year’s Waikato Winter Show will he the Women’s Institute courts, which were such a success last year. Already Institutes in all parts of the Waikato Federation’s district are preparing for their Winter Show exhibits, and comprehensive arrangements are being made by the Show Association to provide the accommodation necessary for the most effective staging of the many articles to he shown. The Institute courts are shown in miniature, because they inolude all branches of home crafts, produce, and art work. Such are the activities of the Women’s Institutes, which have come to occupy a prominent place in the district. Spirit of Co-oporatlon. "The spirit of the institute is the spirit of unity of co-operation of happiness of tolerance and of understanding,” says “The Call" the official organ of the Show Association, In outlining the objects of the institute “Within its charmed circle social distinctions cease to exist. It is non-secretarian and non-political. The strength of the movement lies in its ideal-of teamwork, he., co-ordination of individual effort. Each member is expected to ‘pull her weight,’ not towards Individual welfare, but for the general good. Thus the'W.l. strives toward its. high goal, ‘to make some nook more beautiful and some heart happier.’ Surely no aim could be more worth while. ‘lt, is work for a God.’ ”
Each court will occupy a space 12 feet by eight feet with a background of similar area, and the Waikato Winter Show Shield, at present held by the Kaipaki Institute, will be awarded to the best display. All exhibits must be made by a member of the institute. Full details of the competition, including the allocation of points, and suggestions for exhibits, are published in " The Call,” which is available free of charge on application to the Winter Show office.
