HAMILTON HARRIERS.
NEW SEASON STARTED. WET WEATHER MARS RUN. Inclement weather and the indisposition of several runners resulted in the number who turned out on Saturday for the opening run of the Hamilton Harrier Club’s 1933 season being few. However, the club’s veteran harrier, Mr F. A. de la Mare led the park out in pouring rain and a short road run of about four miles around Te Rapa gave all who participated an appetite with which to enjoy the kind hospitality of Mrs E. V. Stace, who was the hostess on this occasion. It was not expected that many new members would show up on such an unpleasant day, but those who aspire to laurels in the cross-country sport are reminded that the only way to become at all proficient is by constant practice, the 'State of the weather notwithstanding. Next Saturday’s run will be held from the Frankton school, when cross country training -will commence in earnest. Tyros need not, however, be deterred by fears that the exertion required will .be excessive, as runners are graded in packs in accordance with their capabilities and the pace is j slow for the first few runs, gradually getting faster as the season progresses so that by the time the first race is held all who take part are tit for it. t; ■ »
