TRADE WITH RUSSIA.
ADVOCATED BY FARMER. (Speolal to Times.) OTOROHANGA, Saturday. At a meeting of the Otorohanga branch of the Farmers' Union Mr Martin Anso (Puketerata) moved that an endeavour be made to obtain a levy of Is per member on the Dominion membership of the Union, in order to provide funds to send a delegation to Russia, in order to foster trade between this Dominion and that country. Mr Anso pointed out that the oil tankers bringing Russian oils to New Zealand can, and actually do, carry back hides, tallow, skins, etc., to Russia. At present most of the farmers were unable to pay their way, and unless fresh export channels can be explored and used to their mutual advantage disaster must follow the farming community. Regarding the recent trials in Russia, lie would say that nc nation admitted having spies in a foreign, country. If he (a Russian) were to interfere with, say, Arapuni, he would have to stand his trial. At present he was a New Zealander and a loyal one. < Mr V. W. Simms thought that the matter should be left in abeyance in the meantime. The chairman was in accord.
The motion was lost on the voices
