COMBATING YAWS.
CAMPAIGN IN SAMOA. FIRST YEAR’S OPERATIONS. 74,000 INJECTIONS. (Special to Press Association by Radio) (Received April 24, 12.30 p.m.) APIA, April 23. The first year of the yaws injection campaign, which will be spread over three years, has just been completed. The results are as good as could be expected. , Over 74,000 injections were given by native medical practitioners working under the direction of Dr. Ernest Hunt, the chief medical officer in Western Samoa. The campaign is being conducted by the Western Pacific Health Service, in conjunction with the Rockfeller foundation in Its Western Pacific headquarters, Suva. Yaws is a cutaneous ailment, common in Africa, the West Indies and tropical America. It commences with eruptions upon the face, under the armpits and on the groin. It proceeds to ulcerations of a very untraotable .and weakening character. It is contagious,
