MR F. B. HAYDEN. AUCKLAND, Monday. The death occurred last week of Mr F. 11. Hayden, at the age of 02. —* \ MRS AUGUSTA LAWLOR. The death has occurred at Tapu of Mrs Augusta Eliza Lawlor, a resident of the goldfields for almost 69 years. Mrs Lawlor was in her 78th year. REV. J. GIBSON SMITH. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Sunday. The death has occurred of the Rev. J Gibson Smith, a prominent Presbyterian Minister, who recently retired from active work.

SIR HENRY ROYCE. NOTABLE ENGINEER. LONDON, April 22. The death lias occurred of Sir Henry Royee, engineer, aged 70. His name became world famous through its association with the Rolls-Royce motor car.

SIR ALEXANDER SWETTENHAM. LONDON, April 23. The death is reported of Sir Alexander Swettenham, K.C.M.G., aged 80. Deceased had a long record of public service in Ceylon, Cyprus, Singapore, Jamaica and British Guiana. Professor W. 11. Kccsom, of Leyden University, has produced a temperature of 272.3 degrees below the freezing point of water. This is only seven-tenths of a degree below what scientists describe as the point where all heat vanishes. This low record was reached with liquid helium.
