Sir Donald McGavin, of Wellington, was a visitor to Hamilton yesterday. Mr. Justice Reed, of Wellington, was a guest at the Hamilton Hotel yesterday. Mr W. H. Frith, coroner, of Oarnaru, is spending a few days with his son, A. Frith, Ilinau Street, Franlcton Junction. Hon. J. A. Young arrived in Hamilton yesterday morning. He will remain" for the Anzac celebrations tomorrow. At the annual meeting of the Auckland Orphans’ Club on Saturday evening, the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, was elected patron, and Mr G. P. Finlay president. Mr A. C. Rowson, an English butter'lmporter, who has been in New Zealand for two months, will leave Auckland by the Mariposa to-day for Sydney. Mr F. J. Farrell will leave Hamilton to-morrow for Whakatane to attend a silting of the No. 3 District Licensing Authority, opening on Wednesday. The Leader of the Opposition, Mr II E. Holland, left Auckland yesterday for Iluntly. He will speak at Matamata this evening, and will leave to-morrow morning for Dunedin. Mr J. L. Fisher, of the Bank /of England, who Is visiting New Zealand with the object of gaining a knowledge of conditions in the Dominion, Is in the South Island and will later come North. After an extensive tour of North Auckland, the Hon. E. A. Ransom, Minister of Lands, and the Hon. R. Masters, Minister of Education, returned to Auckland yesterday, and left for the South last evening. Dr. Mark has been appointed medical superintendent at Tauranga Hospital, out of eleven applicants. lie will take charge on May 1. lie was formerly senior house-surgeon at Auckland Hospital, and Is at present at Otahuhu.
Mr F. Milner, principal of the Waitaki Boys’ High School, lias been invited to attend the Rotary International at Boston, Mass., United States, in June, to deliver a speech on N#,v Zealand. If Mr Milner accepts lie will also probably be asked to undertake a special speaking mission in the United States. Mr. n. C. Codlin, who, after 31 years’ association with Wilson and Horton, Limited, Auckland, lias resigned from Ihe position of manager, and will leave Auckland for Sydney to join the Sydney Morning Herald as assistant general manager, was entertained by Hie master printers of Auckland on Saturday nigliL, and presented with a handsome barometer In a mahogany, frame, and an antique table and a silver globe for cigarettes.
