First, large, ex store, 14s to 14s 6d. The weekly quotations are based on . actual sales of wholesale quantities of ' carcases of mutton or lamb, or of quarters of beef delivered to Smithfield market and/or London stores. They are compiled by the Quotations Committee, Smithfield. To arrive at the equivalent ex ship values, one farthing per pound should be deducted from the prices quoted above. Quotations given represent the average for the week, and are not selected lines, but for parcels fairly representative of the bulk of shipments now on offer.
The New Zealand Meat Export Board has been advised as follows, as Jo conditions on the London market: — Lamb.—Slightly easier for heavyweight, but lightweight remain steady. Consumption satisfactory. Mutton. —Wethers easier, but lower prices tending to improve demand. Ewes slightly easier -with trade slow. Beef.—Quiet with poor demand.
Pigs.—Market dull with easier prices for porkers. For baconers the market is steady at slightly lower prices.
SALE OF RABBITSKINS. The first rabbitskin sale of the. season in Wellington was held on Friday. The offering comprised chiefly springs, summers and autumns, together wih a fair quantity of fishmongers’ skins. There was a fair demand and any consignments of freshly caught skins, well stretched and fatted, sold at payable prices. Racks realised up to 6|d, early autumns to 9Ad, and dawny autumns Bd.
Small catalogues were offered at the previous week’s Dunedin _ sale, comprised chiefly of *■ early-caught skins, with a small quantity of autumns. There was a good demand for all grades at prices which showed little change from last sale. CAMBRIDGE S/Y.E. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Hamilton t report on their Cambridge stock sale held on Friday:—Only a small entry of fat cattle came forward and these met with the usual demand, late rates being reported. Several pens of weaner heifers also sold on a par with late rates under fair competition. There was a good demand for a heavy entry of lambs, the whole of which met with a ready market at. fully late quotations. A medium entry of pigs composed of stores and (Continued in next column.)
