POPPIES SELL WELL.

GRATIFYING RESPONSE. APPEAL FOR EX-SOLDIERS. “Buy a poppy, sir?” Energetic street sellers, in charge of Mrs H. C. Ross, were posted at strategical points in Hamilton to-day on the occasion of the annual Poppy Day appeal to raise funds for unemployed returned soldiers. During the morning groups of ladies visited the various shops and ofilces and met .with a warm response everywhere. Poppies are a symbol of Flanders Fields, a reminder not only of the glorious dead but of the country’s obligations to ex-soldiers now living. Speaking to a Waikato Times reporter during the day, Airs Ross said the results so far had been most gratifying. By 9 a.m. nearly £3O had been collected from the street sellers operating at the General Post Office and the two bridges. She fully expected that last year’s total of £IOO would be exceeded.
