ROAD TO HEALTH
ADVANTAGE OF EXERCISE. A GRANDMOTHER’S ADVICE. Striking evidence of the practioal effects of physical culture was adduced at the Theatre Royal last evening when “the Modern Grandmother” (Mrs Kitty O’Sullivan) appeared in person and demonstrated various health-giving exercises. Mrs O’Sullivan, who is 52 years of age but looked no older than a girl of 20, received a warm reception. She was, she said, walking from Spirit’s Bay to Bluff and hoped t’o lower I'he New Zealand record for women. She was already 10 days ahead of the previous attempt. Her main mission was to advance the claims of physical culture for middle-aged people desirous of reducing. Exercises were often successful where Turkish baths, drugs and diet were useless. “It is better to see mother lying on (lie floor stretching in the kitchen than on the operatingtable or sick-bed,” added Mrs O’Sullivan. She emphasised the importance of beginning all the exercises slowly and gradually. Mrs O’Sullivan mentioned that throughout her long journey she was wearing nothing but New Zealandmade clothes and she had found them highly reliable. Mrs O’Sullivan will appear again at the Theatre Royal this evening.
