OFFICERS REPLACED.
IRISH GOVERNMENT MOVE. NO OFFICIAL EXPLANATION. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright DUBLIN, February 22. The Government, without explanation, has removed General O’Duffy from the position of Chief of the Civic Guard, which he has held since 1925. He has been replaced by Colonel Bray, Chief Superintendent. Rumours of changes among 'high officers of the Civic Guard have been in circulation for weeks. The Government party came into conflict with some of these officers during the civil war and the organ of the Irish Republican Army has been demanding the dismissal cf General O’Duffy. The left wing of the Flanna Fail party in recent months also has been pei’sistent In demanding General O’Duffy’s removal which follows the removal of Colonel Nelligan chief of the detective division, a month ago. General O’Duffy takes great interest in national athletics and the Olympic Games. He took a large party of the Civic Guards on a pilgrimage to Rome. Perhaps he is best known through his supervision of the draws in the Irish sweepstakes.
