CURIOUS PHENOMENON
LAKE WATERS RISE.
TWO FEET EVERY 22 MINUTES THE MAORIS ALARMED. (By Telegraph.—Prees Association.) ROTORUA, Tuesday. Since Wednesday morning the waters of Lake Taupo have evidenced most unusual movement, the lake level rising and falling regularly nearly two feet every 22 minutes. The waters take nine minutes to regain the normal level, and there Is then a pause of four minutes before they commence to rise again. The movement has oontinued without a break since 10 o’clook on Wednesday morning, when It was first noticed by a number of Maoris engaged In raising stones from the lake bed for the purpose of building up the wall of the trout hatchery. There are no records of any previous movement of this description, and the Maoris are Incllned to be disturbed by the phenomenon.
