Hearing the bell of a burglar alarm ringing In their grocery store on the Parade, Island Bay, about nine o last evening, Mr J. Thomason, shopkeeper, and his son Alec, aged about 19, went to investigate. When they went to the shop a heav-ily-built man rushed from near the door, striking out with a jemmy and inflicting two wounds on the father, who was momentarily blinded by the blood from his Injuries. The son caught the Intruder by the legs and brought him to the ground. In the scuffle which followed the man knocked Mr Thomason, junr., unconscious with the jemmy and made his escape down the street, which was deserted. Mr Thomason, junr., was admitted to hospital and is in a very serious condition. His father received medical aid at his home.
