AN IMPROVED POSITION. THE LATEST RETURNS. (By Telesraph,—P r ess Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. ■Complete details of railway revenue for the four-weekly 'period ended October 15, concerning which a preliminary statement was made on November 5, are contained in the abstract of the working account published in the Gazette. There was a working profit of £10,616, a substantial gain compared with that of £3158 made in the corresponding period of last year. The 'gross tec-elpts for the period were £400,834, or £25,031 less than last year. Expenses at £390,218 were £32,4 89 less. The operating account for the North Island shows a revenue of £209,934 and expenses amounting to £211,091. There was a loss of £1157, compared with £6195 last year. The receipts for the South Island railways were £138,766 and the expenditure was £153,524. The result was a working loss of £'14,758, as against a loss of £18,399 last year. The balance of miscellaneous revenue was £26,531, compared with £27,752 last year. For (he period from April 1 to October 15 net revenue was £240,938, as against £1 68,644 last year. The gross revenue was £3,031,632, a decline of £258,705. The expenditure was £2,790,694, compared with £3,121,693, a decrease of £330,999.
