RUGBY FOOTBALL.
REPLACEMENT OF PLAYERB PLEA TO ENGLISH UNION. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELINGTON, Wednesday. The New Zealand Rugby Union has written to the English Rugby Union making a strong plea to be allowed to continue the practice of replacing injured players during a match. “This practice lias been so long in vogue in New Zealand," the letter .states, “ that it lias become as much an accepted feature of the game as any of the primary rules. The present generation of players and supporters lias known no other custom.” The New Zealand Union refers to injuries suffered by Sobcy and Murray during the British team's lour of Now Zealand, and also quotes a letter received from the British Medical Association urging Unit players with head injuries should not be allowed to continue playing.
