THE WAIKATO MEETING. TRAINING AT TE RAPA. FINAL GALLOPS THIS MORNING. The final gallops by horses engaged at the Waikato meeting, were carried out at Te Rapa this morning. All the work was done on the plough track, which was in excellent order and faster than usual for this period or the year. The first pair to appear were Paganelli (N. Syme) and Holly Holm (Mclnally). They galloped six furlongs, Paganelli doing it freely in front at the finish, the time being 1.16 1-5. Princess Bede (Long) was going nicely throughout her five furlong effort, which occupied 1.3 2-5. This filly has had racing this season and her condition is well advanced. The Cup candidate Te Iloia (Bentley) was accompanied by his stablemate liluminagh (Brady) over seven furlongs. The former was soon into his stride and the pair placed the first half mile behind in 525. Te Iloia, who had a pull in the weights, drew away in the run home to finish with a three lengths’ advantage, his time for the journey being 1.32. E. Ludlow, who rode Te iloia when the latter won the Jellicoe Handicap at Ellerslie in August, will be in the saddle on Saturday. Although an easing of the tracks would be in his favour, Te Iloia should run a good race on the roomy local course under any conditions. Illuminagh’s form has not been attractive this season. J. Mcßae will ride him in the Highweight on Saturday. Ganpat and Baroscope. The Wanganui owned Ganpat (A. Gilmer) and Baroscope (A. Tinker) were sent six furlongs. Ganpat made the earlier running but Baroscope, who was on the outside, was putting in good work in the straight and was going the better at the finish. The pair went past the post on terms, the time being 1.16 1-5. It was a good effort by both horses. High Commissioner (Hika) went once round, the distance being short of nine furlongs, in 1.56. The hurdles candidate has come on well this season, his pace being an asset in jumping events. Cruachan (Mclnally) covered hall' a mile in 52 2-ss. The King MarkStraga gelding has had his attention confined chiefly to hill work of recent days. A hard track is not in his favour and this aspect will be weighed in considering whether his Cup engagement will be kept on Saturday. Valuation (Faulkner) and Limex (Long) got to the end of four furlongs In 50 4-ss. Limex, who was on the outside, was going very comfortably in front at the finish. The Awapuni horseman, W. J. McDowell, has been engaged for Limex in the Hautapu Handicap. With a favourable start, the Limond filly would require consideration. Valuation, who is in good condition, appreciates a firm track. Senorlta (Hika) was safely holding Kahau (Connor) in placing three furlongs behind in 36 3-ss. Both horses moved nicely and are in good order. The latest racing and track work have improved Senorita who is speedy and also runs on solidly. L’Allegro’s Fast Half. A smart half-mile effort was to the credit of L’Allegro (Mclnally) who finished clear of Wilton (Bentley), running Hie distance in 49 4-ss. L’Allegro started behind his companion, but evened matters up in this respect early, and finished determinedly. Since his good effort in reaching third place to Pillow Fight and Sea Ruler, when he came from a good way back, in the Champion Hack Plate at Avondale, L’Allegro has not had a start. While a race would improve him, his effort this morning gave further support to his ability. He is in the Highweight Handicap on Sat-

urday. For horses of their grade Sub-Edi-tor (Brady) and Ruby Dawn (Connor) made a good showing in running Half a mile in 50 3-ss. The Trial Stakes candidates, Whirlalong (Gilmer) and Beau Irish (Tinker), finished as named with No Fooling (Brady), handy at the end of five furlongs, the time being 1.4. - Sammy '(Mclnally) was doing his work well, in front of his stahlemate, Arcade (Bentley). The former ran the seven furlongs in 1.31 2-5 which was a good showing for a novice. Sammy, who is a well developed flve-year-ohl gelding by Lack-ham —Oslend, I is in the Highweight on Saturday. Bronze Tray and Company. The Cup candidate, Bronze Tray, arrived early this morning from Wliangarci, in company with Gay idea and Enjoyment, all members of M. Stack’s team. Bronze Tray (Mclnally) was galloped five furlongs with Gay Idea (Bentley). There was nothing between the pair at the finish, the time being 1.4. Both horses bear a well trained appearance. Bronze Tray, who will be suited by the- long straight at Te Rapa, woii (lie Avondale Gup in September. He invariably races well locally. Enjoyment (Bentley) was sent three furlongs which lie ran in 38s. This two-year-old colt by Delightmeiit— Exalted, lias bad some racing, which has benefited him.

Lady Lulu and Master Norval have both been working well and may get into the money at this week-end. Valroe is the only local horse in the Cup and his recent racing has brought him into good form. Should a shower come before Saturday lie may be in a position to show his real worth. Lucy Hose’s sister, Gay Hose, will contest the Tamahere Stakes. She has started previously, but may not show to advantage until Hie autumn. She has a fast turn of speed and the four furlongs will suit her should she have a good start.
