RELIEF WORKERS’ PLOTS.

HELPING THEMBELVEB.

GENUINE ATTEMPT MADE}. A genuine attempt on the .part of the unemployed to cultivate their own vegetables has been disclosed in a recent inspection of the gardens of relief workers in the borough. In the majority of cases there was ample, evidence that the men had done their best to meet the requirements of the Unemployment Board. There were instanoes, however, in which little or no attempt had been made to cultivate a garden and these workers have been notified that unless they help themselves in this connection further rejief may be refused them. In one case, In which a relief worker had received potato seed from the Welfare League, nothing had been planted. The seed was used apparently for more immediate purposes.
