FREEZING DISPUTE.
DEPUTATION TO MINISTER. NO BTATE ACTION INTENDED. EMPLOYERS WILLING TO CONFER. WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Representatives of freezing companies interviewed the Minister of Labour, the Hon. A. Hamilton, to-day. The deputation was private. The Minister said subsequently that the deputation had reported to him the extent of the negotiations which had taken place between the companies and the men. The companies had stated that they were willing to meet the men again, but so far they had had no request for a further meeting. Endeavours were being made in Auckland to bring about a meeting there, but that had not yet come about. No request was made for Government Intervention in the dispute, said the Minister, and it was not Intended that the Government should intervene.
AT WESTFIELD AND 80UTKD0WN. PLENTY OF LABOUR AVAILABLE. AUCKLAND, Wednesday. When work was resumed at WestJeld yesterday morning between 20 and 30 new employees were engaged. An ordinary day’s operations was carried out without interruption. A fairly large number of men 'called at Southdown, but no new hands were taken on. IN TARANAKI DIBTRICT. FREE LABOUR USED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Tuesday. The Waitara freezing works rejommenoed operations to-day with free labour. Arrangements have been made whereby all classes of stock will be dealt with and buyers have been fistruc'ted to proceed. A union meeting decided on instruction from the National Council to withdraw the essential men, who had been working on the commencement of free labour, but the management will be able to effect a replacement tomorrow.
