Compulsory Arbitration Bill. —The Labour Party’s campaign to secure a return to the system of compulsory arbitration in Industrial disputes was advanced a further stage in the House of Representatives yesterday. Mr R. McKeen (Wellington South) gave, notice of his intention to Introduce 'the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill (No. 3). The Amendment Bill (No. 2), which already stands on the Order Paper in the name of Mr J. McCombs (Lyttelton), provides for a repeal of last session’s legislation and proposes to revive awards and agreements existing before the passage of that legislation. Mr McKeen’s bill not only proposes an amendment to the 1932 Act, but provides that the clerk of awards shall take a poll of employers on the question of the cancellation of any award by which they are bound, and that the award shall not be cancelled if a majority of employers vote in favour of its continuance.
