FIRST BLOOD DRAWN. COMMUNIST SHARPSHOOTERS. RAID NAZI’S HOME, United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel. Copyright, BERLIN, Aug. 23. A party of Gommunist sharpshooters at Duisburg raided the home of a prominent Fascist (Nazi) and fired a volley into his bedroom. The Nazi escaped but his wife was wounded. This is the first blood in the war between the Nazis and Reds which threatens to rend the country In two. The death sentences imposed on the five Nazis at Beuthen have aroused a wave of anger only comparable to that in Central Europe after the murder of the Austrian Archduke at Sarajevo in 1914. “It seefns inevitable that civil war will break out In Germany before October," said Mr H. M. Rushworth, M.P., when referring to the difficulties experienced in Germany, among other countries, at a meeting of the Economic Society in Auckland last evening. Mr Rushworth said that a correspondent writing to him from Hanover had stated that the people of Germany could not see a way out of it, LATER. AN UNEVENTFUL DAY. ■COMMUNIST SENTENCED. Beyond a charge by 200 police to clear the Beuthen courtyard, where the Nazis were yelling ‘‘Surrender our prisoners!" the day passed uneventfully. The severity of the anti-terrorist law was * displayed by a ten years* sentence imposed on a Berlin Communist for tiring a revolver during a political clash. INFLATION OPPOSED. DR. Dr. Luther, President of the Reichsbank, addressing the Co-operative Bank, vigorously opposed Inflation, and warned Germany against exaggerated endeavours to become Independent of foreign imports. The Reichsbank was willing to supply credit fur economically sound pur« poses.
