OBITUARY.
MRS MARY ANN QUALTROUGH. OLD RESIDENT OF HAMILTON. A very old resident of Hamilton passed away yesterday, in the person of Mrs Mary Ann Qualtrough, whose death occurred at her residence, Mill Street, after a long illness. Deceased, who was- the youngest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs J. T. Prince, of Ohaupo, was born at Bur-ton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England, 70 years ago. With her parents she came to New Zealand at an early age, on the sailing ship Red Rover, landing at the old Shortland Street wharf in Auckland, after a voyage of nearly five months. This ship was wrecked on its return trip to England, The family went to Alexandra, or Pirongia, as it is now known, arriving there just at the close of the Maori wars. These were troublous days ,and on many occasions Mrs Qualtrough and her parents had to seek refuge in the blockhouse. Deceased was married at Ohaupo to Mr Thomas QualLrough. With her husband she came to reside in Hamilton over forty years ago. Mr Qualtrough was a butcher for many years, and later look up contracting. He retired about six years ago. Mrs Qualtrough was a staunch member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church, and sang in the choir for 2.') years. For the past three years she lias been a semi-invalid, but was always bright and cheerful. News of her death will be received with regret by a large circle of friends. Deceased is survived by her husband and six children —Mesdames 0. E. llardley (Auckland), G. S. Smith (To Awamutu), W. Martin (Tc Kuiti), D. B. Hooper (Otorohanga), M. E. Lee (Tc Awamutu), and Mr J. T. Qualtrough (Hamilton).
