RANKIN MEMORIAL OUP. GAME WON BY HOLDERS. The first match for this trophy for about four years was played at Te Awamutu on Wednesday afternoon, between Auckland Grammar School (holders) and Te Awamutu High School (challengers). The holders won by 8 to t, but the local boys did very well against great odds. They have only been playing two years, and were smaller and not so fast as Hie visitors, who have a record of not having suffered a loss for four years. For the Te Awamutu team, D. Shaw in goal, excelled himself. The fullbacks were outpaced, but did well. Tho halves were up aaglnst it, and of the forwards Empson, McMahon and C. Ricklt shone out. Of tho visitors, Twigden did well, but was out of place now and again. Houghton as centre half was everywhere, ami the two bullbacks both were very safe. All the forwards played well, their combination being very good. Messrs L. Spooner (Auckland) and C. A.’Finch (To Awamutu) were the referees.
