INTER-CLUB RUN. TEN-MILE EVENT AT FRANKTON. HOME- TEAM SUCCESSFUL. The Hamilton Harrier Club held a ten-mile cross-country ra.ee from the Frankton School on Saturday afternoon. Teams were entered from the Te Kuiti Club, Technical Old Boys’ Club (Auckland), ’Varsity Club, the Auckland Amateur Athletic Club and also the Hamilton Harrier Club. Teams consisted of six .runners with the llrst four home to count. The, course commenced at the school baths and turned up a side road at the end of Massey Street. The trail led along this road for about half a mile and then struck across country for about two miles. About three miles of Hat, swampy land was then traversed, the trail then turned and crossed the Wliatawhala |Road, continuing along llowden’s Road for a short distance and entering undulating paddocks which were covered until the Whalawhnta Road was reached near the intersection of Massey Street. The course, of 10 miles was a severe test for the runners.

Unfortunately the bus carrying the Auckland contingent of runners broke down at Bombay and only two Auckland men, both of the ’Varsity Club, were, able to get through. The start was eventually made at 4.30 p.m., and 18 runners faced the starter. Roberts and Salisbury (Hamilton) took the lead soon after the race commenced, closely followed by Ready and Coombes. (Hamilton) and King (Te Kuiti). Crossing the swamp Ready who was running very freely contracted stitch and dropped back, he also lead an accident when mounting a barb wire fence, which affected his running. Roberts and Salisbury were gradually increasing their lead and crossing the Whatawhata Road at the five-mile mark the order was Roberts, Salisbury, Farland, Coombes and Cook. On the run home the order remained unchanged but the time of the race, was slowed owing to darkness obscuring the trail. The race resulted.—N. F. Roberts and J. Salisbury (Hamilton) dead heat 1, R. Coombes (Hamilton), 3, J. King (Te Kuiti) 4, A. Cook (Hamilton) 5. Time, 70 mins. 50 sec. The teams race resulted.—Hamilton (Roberts 14, Salisbury li, Coombes 3, Cook 5) 11 points, 1; Te Kuiti (King 4, Garvey 7, Smith 13, McNaugh 15), 39 points, 2. The result of the B grade was.—ll. Delaney (Hamilton). 1, D. Silvester (Hamilton) 2. After the race the visitors were entertained at a dinner held in the Y.M.C.A.
