HAMILTON SPORTS CLUB
HENWOOD’S DOUBLE SUCCESS.
NINETEEN-MILES EVENT DECIDED
Eleven riders lined up for the Hamilton Sports Club’s 19-miles cycle road race on Saturday afternoon, and with ideal conditions prevailing for riding the event produced some good performances. The course was from the Hamilton East Post Office to Banks’ corner, on the Cambridge road, and back. Randrup, the limit man, got away 6min 30sec ahead of C. Henwood, who was on the back mark. After covering the whole of the outward journey at the head of the field Randrup turned for home only 50 yards ahead of Woodhead and Hodgson, who were riding well together. Woodhead fell soon after, and lost ground, and Hodgson went on to overtake Randrup. At this stage only half a mile separated the leader and the last man, a tribute to the excellent handicapping. About two miles from Tamahere Hodgson, Lee, Barr, Hawkins and Randrup were riding in a bunch, and two miles from home Benfell and Henwood came up to join them. A fine sprint in the closing stages saw Henwood in just ahead of Benfell, with Barr in third place. Henwood achieved a double success, in that besides being first home he made festest time. The race resulted: C. Henwood (scr), 50min 30sec, 1 and fastest time; C. Benfell (30sec). simin 0 2-ssec, 2; 0. Barr (imin 45sec), 52 min 0 3-ssec, 3.
