BOROUGH COUNCIL.
FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. GENERAL BUSINESS DEALT WITH. The usual fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor, Dr. F. D. Pinfold, presiding over Crs. A.. J. Denz, deputyMayor, C. J- W. Barton, W. Bourne, 11. D. Caro, F. H. Clapham, W. A. Curteis, W. W. Dillicar, F. J. Farrell, H. M. Hammond, C. Lafferty and S. V. Tyler. Also present were Messrs W. L. Waddel, town clerk, R. Worley, engineer, I. Webster, electrical engineer and E. H. Bonham, treasurer. Permission for ‘the Y.M-G.A. to hold a procession and street stall on June 3 was declined. The formation of a footway in Casey’s Avenue, Claudelands, is to be •carried out as a relief job. The engineer was authorised to turf the batters on Bridge Street, East ■School Gully, Lake Road, and part of Cook Street by relief labour on receipt of suitable undertakings ito keep them in order. in reply to representations by the council, the Commissioner of Transport stated that when financial conditions permitted favourable conside>lion would be given to the grant of a subsidy for work carried out by the council under the Transport Act. An application from the Hamilton Coursing: Club’ for a reduction of rent for fhcNvhitiora reserve was granted. 'l’lie area was originally, let to the club for £3O a year, a temporary reduction to £ls being made in February, 1930. This latter arrangement is to continue for this year.
An application from the Unemployed Workers’ Movement fo” the use of 'a local theatre on Sundays for meetings was declined.
