On the preliminary c,ount Mr A. S. Sutherland, of had an apparent majority of 26 votes, the disparity in the respective counts being largely acoounted for by the fact that a relayed telephoned return from a remote polling booth oame through a? a majority of 66 for Mr Sutherland, whereas his majority at this booth was oply 36. The final returns are:— A. Livingstone (Whatawhata) 992 A. S. Sutherland (Ngaruawahia) 990 F. J. Farrell (Hamilton) .. .. 536 J. Primrose (Hamilton) .. .. 144 On the preliminary count the figures were; Sutherland, 1016; Livingstone, 990; Farrell, 535; Primrose, 144.
