CHESS.
HAMILTON CLUB. The annual meeting of the Hamilton Chess Club, held last evening in the “Haeremai" Tea Rooms, was well at tended. The report stated that the past season had boon most successful, the attendance had been well maintained and the meetings marked with the utmost enthusiasm and good fellowship. A handicap tournament was commenced early in the season, the. handicapping being by means of bisques. This was a novel experiment, and proved to be iiie most interesting means of handicapping yet tried, ns can be judged by the result. Mr Hirst, hearting the list only half a point ahead of five others who lied for second place. A ladder tournament was also played, which resulted in a win for Mr Bullock. The following were elected officers: —P”esident. Mr K. .1. Stevenson; viecpresidenls. Messrs A. 11. Tompkins and T. Shaw: committee, Messrs It. Mears and F. , Hirst ; secretary, Mr K. |,, Junes, II was decided to open the season on Thursday next, when Mr Bullock will [day a simultaneous match against the rest of the members.
