MUNICIPAL OFFICES.
NEW BUILDING PROGRESSES. EARTHQUAKE PROTECTION. Steady progress is being made with Hamilton's new municipal building on the river bank at the foot of Alma Street. It is unlikely that the contractors will be able to complete at the end of June as originally intended. Some time in July should probah'v see the structure finished and the council staff may enter into occupation early in August. The concreting of Ihe walls, floor and ceilings of the ground floor will he completed by Monday, when a start will be made with the erection of the walls of Ihe second storey. It, is pointed out that the now building is being erected on essentially modern lines, full provision being made for possible earthquakes. In fact. it. is largely Ihe extra work involved in providing ample protection against earth tremors which has somewhat, prolonged Ihe original time expected for completion.
